Greetings from the OBT Conference Steering Committee. We hope you are well.
In March, when it became clear that Covid-19 was going to be a worldwide pandemic, the Steering Committee began a process of assessing whether or not the dates this November would still work for hosting an international conference. In the past few days, the Committee has decided to suspend the planning for a November conference.
Our vision has been, and continues to be, to provide an opportunity for practitioners to come together to share their experiences and hear from others in a mixture of formal and informal settings. Through this time we hope to maximize opportunities for people to learn from each other and come away encouraged and refreshed for their part in bringing the Good News of Jesus to the ends of the earth. We want this conference to be centered on those involved day-to-day in oral translation.
We are still very passionate about this vision. We look forward to when we can greet you face-to-face, share in the joys of your successes, and empathize with you in your struggles. The Steering Committee will meet again in September to look at conditions worldwide and see if it is the right time to look again at a date and location that is both visa-friendly and cost effective for such a gathering.
In the meantime -- God's shalom on each of you.
On behalf of your brothers and sisters in Christ on the Steering Committee,
Brian Kelly,
Chair, OBT Conference Steering Committee
